viewing and printing game:
* Open your photo program such as Adobe Photoshop, CorelPhotoPaint, etc.
* Under File choose Open, select file areaA.jpg and open it.
* Make a test print at 100% as a landscape at maximum print area on letter size (8 1/2" x 11") paper, using black ink and economy settings. Use Print Preview if you have this. Although the image may appear very large onscreen, it should print full size on letter size paper. Caution: Some photo programs such as GraphicConverter, PictureViewer and AppleWorks let me view the files ok but printed them at odd sizes even with my printer set at 100%.
* Check 6" scale on print to verify size is ok. If not, adjust the %size on your print page setup as required (if it's huge try 50% or 75%) and reprint test page. To calculate % divide 6" by actual measurement and move decimal 2 places.
--------Note: If you can't reduce prints to proper size click low dpi versions.
* Then make a good print using card stock (printable on both sides and preferably at least 67 lb. stock) and finest detail, best color quality and thick paper settings.
* Then print the remaining areaX files as landscapes and other files as portraits. See below for Game Cards (Safari and Action cards, front and back).
game cards are printed on both sides, so registration needs to be reasonably good, although there is about 1/4" tolerance in the overlap of the back side. It's usually best to use automatic-feed since this normally gives fairly consistent registration. After printing both sides, hold the sheet up to a light to check that the registration is within the margin of error - if not, print a new sheet.trimming:
All trimming should be done with a sharp, razor type knife and a straight edge for best results. Use heavy cardboard to cut on, like the back of a drawing pad. Or you can use scissors if you're careful.
----------8 board areas - Write identity (A through H) on back center of each sheet. Cut off margins and text. note: if you plan to tape the areas together rather than glue them to a board, leave all margins on area A - trim only left margin on areas B, C, D - trim only top margin on area E - trim top and left margins on areas F, G, and H. Follow instructions below as to order of assembly (A through H) and overlapping areas up to the tick marks on each sheet.
----------animals - Crease along blue lines first. The back of a scissors blade and a straight edge work well for this. Cut between animals so they can be worked on more easily. Cut around perimeter of each animal.
----------game cards - Cut between rows of cards, stopping cuts short of the edges of the sheet, so rows remain attached for ease of cutting in the other direction. The razor is better than scissors for cutting out cards.gluing:
To glue card stock to foamcore use a permanent type glue-stick. (An alternate method is to use magic tape to join the sheets to each other with no backing.)
----------avoid * double-sided tape: difficult to use since the entire back of each sheet must be covered evenly to prevent buckling. * liquid glue: may buckle the paper. * rubber cement: may stain through and has very harmful fumes that can cause anemia. * instant setting glue: difficult to position.
----------board - Get a sheet of 1/4" thick, white foamcore about 30" x 40" from an art-supply or stationery store. Draw a straight, thin, pencil guideline about 1 1/4" in from one of the long sides and the full length of the board. With this line at the top, draw a similar line 1 1/4" in from the left side of the board. Where these lines cross will be the upper left corner of Area A. Carefully cover the entire back of Area A with the glue stick. Leave no gaps, especially around the edges. Try to avoid getting any glue on the front of the sheet. Use a clean piece of newspaper to work on and keep changing it. Then very carefully line up the edges of Area A exactly with the guidelines and rub it down evenly all over to insure good contact. Wipe off any glue on the face of Area A with a slightly damp paper towel, being careful not to smudge the image, which is water soluble.
----------Area B will go to the right of Area A. Then Areas C and D. Area E will then go below Area A followed by Areas F, G and H. For best results do them in the above order. The areas overlap about 1/16" to allow for slight errors in alignment without having the foamcore show through. There are fine tick-marks near the right edge of Area A. The edges of Area B should touch these tick marks and also the top pencil guideline. Continue with the other areas in a similar manner. Areas E through H line up with the tick-marks on the bottom edges of the upper row of tiles.
----------Trim off the excess foamcore to give 1 1/4" margins all around. A sheet of wrapping paper or shelf paper glued to the back will reduce warping. For convenience of storage and transportation the board and card stock may be cut part way through from the front to make hinges. Don't cut too deep - try it on a scrap of foamcore first.
----------animals - Fold each animal on the three scored lines so both sides face out and the base tabs overlap. Glue tabs together with the glue-stick or double-sided tape. Attach a penny or washer to the top of each base with double-sided tape or model airplane glue to make the pieces more stable.© registered copyright 2002 by ted knerr
