The mystery of worldly events and the underlying metaphysical phenomena compel me to look for "answers". To think that I can uncover the riddle of the Universe is absurd - but dig I must. As there are no definitive answers - and no definitive questions - my paintings are perforce ambiguous, implicit and open-ended. The abstract mode of painting for my purposes is the most liberating, the most probing and creative. I am thus able to "speak" the "non-speakable" made concrete to me for the first time with paint and canvas.
As corollary to this interest I attempt to understand the various levels of consciousness, particularly image formation in the preconscious mind: How do the wisps and fragments of an image look before coalescing in the waking or dream life or in an artwork? Although it is not possible to know what is happening precognitively, I attempt to make manifest this sphere of consciousness.
I do not strive so much for resolution as to foster a suspension of belief so that hopefully the viewer (and myself) may arrive at a new visual experience.
